Marriage and family therapists (MFTs) play a crucial role in supporting both children and adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) by addressing the unique challenges they face within the context of their family dynamics and relationships. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, which can significantly impact an individual’s functioning at home, school, and work. By employing a systemic approach to therapy, I work collaboratively with clients and their families to develop coping strategies, improve communication, and strengthen relationships, ultimately promoting greater resilience and well-being.
One of the primary ways I help children and adults with ADHD is by providing psychoeducation about the disorder and its impact on individuals and families. By increasing awareness and understanding of ADHD symptoms and how they manifest in daily life, I help clients and their families develop empathy and compassion for one another. Psychoeducation also helps normalize the experiences of individuals with ADHD and reduces stigma surrounding the disorder, fostering a supportive and accepting environment within the family.
