Trauma/PTSD

Trauma can have profound and lasting effects on individuals and their families, impacting relationships, emotional well-being, and overall functioning. By employing a systemic approach to therapy, I address the interconnected dynamics of trauma within the family system, providing support, validation, and guidance to facilitate healing and recovery.

One of the primary ways I help children and adults with trauma or PTSD is by creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment where they can explore and process their experiences. Trauma survivors may feel overwhelmed by intense emotions, memories, and physical sensations related to their traumatic experiences. I offer a compassionate and nonjudgmental space for clients to express their feelings, share their stories, and work through the pain and confusion caused by trauma.

Trauma/PTSD Therapy

I assist clients in understanding the impact of trauma on their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Trauma can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including hypervigilance, flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, numbing, and difficulty trusting others. I help clients recognize and validate these symptoms, empowering them to make sense of their experiences and develop coping strategies to manage their PTSD symptoms effectively.

In addition, I work collaboratively with clients to develop coping skills and tools to regulate their emotions and reduce their distress. This may involve teaching relaxation techniques, mindfulness practices, or grounding exercises to help clients manage anxiety, flashbacks, and other trauma-related symptoms. As a marriage and family therapist, I also help clients identify triggers and develop healthy coping strategies to prevent retraumatization and promote emotional resilience.

Furthermore, I help clients process their traumatic experiences and integrate them into their personal narratives in a way that promotes healing and growth. Through trauma-focused therapies such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), or narrative therapy, I help clients reprocess and reframe their traumatic memories, reducing their emotional intensity and empowering them to move forward with their lives.

Another essential aspect of my work with clients who have experienced trauma or PTSD is addressing the impact of trauma on their relationships and family dynamics. Trauma can strain relationships, disrupt attachment bonds, and lead to communication difficulties and conflicts within families. I provide family therapy or couples therapy to help clients repair and strengthen their relationships, improve communication skills, and rebuild trust and intimacy.

Moreover, I assist parents in understanding and supporting their children’s unique needs and responses to trauma. Parents may feel overwhelmed or uncertain about how to best support their child through the healing process. I offer guidance, psychoeducation, and parenting strategies to help parents create a safe and nurturing environment for their child to heal and thrive.

By creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment, validating clients’ experiences, and providing evidence-based interventions, I empower clients to navigate the complexities of trauma, rebuild their lives, and strengthen their relationships with themselves and their loved ones. Through compassionate and collaborative care, I help trauma survivors find healing, resilience, and hope for the future.
